Press Release:

Avery Brooks and Colin Ferguson Slated to Appear at the Away Mission: Orlando Sci- Fi Convention October 5-7, 2012

Tenured professor at NYU, Brooks will commemorate the 20th anniversary of DS9 with his fans at the Hilton Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando and join a host of other sci-fi guests.

Also attending is Colin Ferguson from the wildly popular SyFy channel original series Eureka. Plus the great hotel rate has many patrons staying a couple of extra days to enjoy the Disney theme parks.

Orlando, FL (PRLINK) August 20, 2012 – Set for the first weekend of October and with many confirmed stars, artists, and authors, this  weekend-long sci-fi convention presented by Away Mission (formerly Vulcan Events) promises to be the sci-fi event of the year. Avery Brooks—the smooth as velvet Captain Benjamin Sisko from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine TV show and several films including American History X—will join Colin Ferguson from the SyFy Channel’s original series Eureka! They will be available all weekend for autographs and photo ops.

Rounding out the lineup are Dwight Schultz from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Dirk Benedict from the original Battlestar Galactica. Both Dwight and Dirk also starred in the 80’s cult classic The A Team. Robert Duncan McNeill, the actor best known for portraying Tom Paris in Star Trek: Voyager is also scheduled to attend. Robin Curtis from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Eric Menyuk from Star Trek: The Next Generation will attend and perform.

Kicking off the event Friday night, Away Mission is hosting a nerd music concert featuring nerdcore rapper from New York City-Schaffer The Darklord and performances by several acts from the nerd music movement including Sci-Fried, Random Encounter, MC Wrekshin, HDNinja, Magitek, and Marc with a C.

As with the company’s past conventions, this show is planned around providing a relaxed and sociable atmosphere where fans can mingle with stars and enjoy the many convention activities including auctions, a concert Friday night, and special events for children. Robin and Eric will perform their nerdy comedy—about an hour of original Star Trek parody materials—and it is a must see.

First-time convention goers will be pleasantly surprised at the ambiance and disposition of the average patron. “We may look like geeks in rubber masks but we are doctors, professors, and people from all walks of life. This is our fun; this is our escape” notes Javier Garcia, one of the promoters.

Several ticket options are available for advanced purchase. Weekend tickets start at $65 and single-day general admission tickets start at $15.
